Sabiki Fishing: a guide for your first tryout!!

Since have recommended many Japanese songs in the past posts, then...

have realized to be noticed that my theme was being biased toward one topic.
So, today... shift the topic to the leisure...

introducing the thing what I do in free time the most here at Tokyo, rather than having a date with my girlfriend...

a recommendation from my favorites... the most easiest way of fishing...

"The SABIKI fishing"!!

As you can see that above girls in the video are the first time of doing fishing!!

but even if they do not have any fishing experience... have caught 18 Mackerels!!

It is amazing isn't it... でしょ？？

Ahaha... so as Sabiki fishing is definitely beginner friendly fishing for everybody.

【The outline details of "Sabiki" fishing】

★Suitable for fishing beginners especially for a family with children.

★Be enjoyed in all seasons.

★A tube type bait, will not be bothered by get your hands dirty or suffered by awful smell.

★No need to have any skills or technique...
・quietly put all hooks and a cage below under 50cm~3m from the surface,
   then  leave them steady ...
・fishes will automatically hooking by themselves.

★It is targeting for all fishes around 30 cm at the embankment fishing points.

★Target fishes:
・Bream, Seabass, mackerel, horse mackerel, (Mebaru & Kasago)Rock fishes,
   Flat head, Flat fish, Sand borer, Globe fish, Sardine, Yellowtail... and more!!

★Recommended nearby Tokyo fishing points:
・IZU area: Atami, Itou, Numazu, Omaezaki, Kawazu, Heta, Toi.
・Chiba area: Tateyama, Kamogawa, Onjuku, Kujukuri, Choshi.

While at the time enjoying Sabiki fishing...

Even if have said so...

I am enjoying the most of the time with "Lure fishing" by using "Ajing Tackle", not "Sabiki Fishing"!!

It is because, "Sabiki Fishing" is very easy way of fishing but need to prepare "a pack of frozen baits" and...

also. it need to have a full day to go to an appropriate fishing point, which have the secure embankments more than 3 meters deep water in the harbour.

The sensitive "AJING" (Japanese mackel) rod is appropriate for not exceeding over 30 cm targeting fishes like...

"Japanese Mackels", "Yellow tails", "Flat heads", "Seabass", "Rockfishes" or "Breams"...

if by the time "Seabass Tackle" to be used when have estimated average of 50 cm or more big fishes at the fishing point...

like targeting "Seabass", "Breams", "Flathead", or sometimes "over 100 cm Rays" and more!!

But "Ajing Tackle" and "Seabass Tackle" are need to have highly skills on techniques and experiences...

so you need to comprehend precise each fishes' behaviours to be explained before catching fishes by the above tackles, and more...

besides you are required to pay a high amount of initial expense for preparing these Rod, Reel, Main line, Leader Line, Lures, and other essential equipments of around JP 50,000(US$500) or more, so...

the explanations on these topics about "Ajing" and "Seabass" are to be described in near future by new articles... probably...って事で（笑）.




As I said, the SABIKI fishing is the easiest way to get the fish.

Since you have not yet trying the SABIKI fishing, You never know how the SABIKI fishing is suitable for various fishes.

So...I provide you the list of fishes for your curiosity!!.

【Very easy to catch】.

・Iwashi(10~30cm)=Sardine

・Aji(10~40cm)=Horse mackerel.

・Saba(10~40cm)=Mackerel.

・Nenbutsudai(8~15cm)=Half-lined cardinal.

・Bera(10~20cm)=Labridae.

・Ishimochi(15~40cm)=Croaker.

・Kawahagi(10~30cm)=Filefish.

【Easy to catch: beware, these are poisoned fishes】.

・Kasago(15~30cm)=Rock fish (has poisoned fin).

・Mebaru(10~30cm)=Black rockfish (has weak poisoned fin).

・Fugu(10~30cm)=Blowfish (has poisoned in a mucous membrane and the body).

・Aigo(10~25cm)=Rabbitfish (has poisoned fin).

・Gonzui(10~20cm)=Greenling fish (has poisoned fin).

・Umi kemushi(5~15cm)=Cormorant calico cat bug (has poisoned in lateral legs).

As I have said at the above, "SABIKI" fishing is the most easy basic method to get various numbers of fishes you've never experienced before!!

The reason is by the numbers of hooking system...

It has more than six needles at minimum! !

Reconsider your past memories...

I think you may remembered people had attached only a single hook at the end of their fishing line!!

In other hand... Sabiki fishing have six hooks and working to appeal by each, so... you can catch fishes more!!

【Common Sabiki Fishing tackles】.

.

★Fishing Rod: Iso Zao=いそ ざお Seashore Rod.
・Length:  Better to have more than 5.3m for a male, 4.5m for a female.
・Class: 1.5~3 GO=ごう（号） (fit to the weight 5.6g~11.25g).
・Recommend:  "Daiwa Liberty Club Iso kaze 1.5-5.3".



★Reel: a machine for winding up the thread.
・Size: 2000~3000 reels.
・Recommend: Shimano Sahara 2500 2017 model



★Line: cheap Nylon line would be OK.
・Strength: 4lb~12lb (1Go＝1.5Kg~3Go=4.5kg line)



★SABIKI Hooks: #4~6 hook applied for "AJI" SABIKI Hook set.



★Komase Kago: a bait basket, or cage
・Size: S~M size plastic basket with weight is better.



★A swivelle with a snap: a connecting tool with line and Sabiki hooks.
・#4~6 Snap type is the best.
・Weight resistant: 5kg~15kg is useful.



★Weight: Set at the end of Sabiki Hook system for to stabilize the tension of the line.
・Size: 1.5~3Go(4.5~9g)



★Komase Ami: A pack of baits.
・Tube type is better.
・bait is consisted by atlantic krills (small shrimp type plankton).
・Ordinary packs smell badly, but tube types are reduced its smell by adding blueberry or flower fragrances.



★Ladle: For to spread Komase ami(bait) into water.
・40cm long is the best!!



★Two plastic spoons: For to insert Komase ami(bait) into the Komase basket.
・Disposal plastic spoon is the best!!
・Ask convenience store for free spoons.
・better to have more than two in case of break.

★Fish holder: For to catch a fish.





★Radio pliers: for hooking off fishes.
・Cheaper one is enough, so get it at 100 Yen Shop!!



★A Basket: For fetching water, basket with 10m rope.
・Nylon type is the best!!



★Fishing Net: Diameter more than 50cm wide, 4~6m long.
・May not be required for Sabiki fishing.



★Towels: Two Waste cloths, Two face towels for Hands.

★45L Garbage bag: Two for wrapping used gears.

★Plastic bags: Three, for rubbish.

★2L Bottle: Pet bottle for washing hands.

★Cooler Box: If you bring back getting fishes.
・For to preserve the nature, return fishes to the ocean unless if you are intend to eat them.

★LED headlight: For your own safety.
・Powerful more than 300 lumens headlight is recommended.



★Caster: For transport tools and gears.

★A big bag: Put all gears into it!!
・It will soon become smelly and get dirty, so get it at 100 Yen store.





As I have told you that SABIKI fishing is suitable for all beginners, But there severe demerits is still remaining!!

【Estimated possible demerits】

★Danger of the hooks!!
・take a maximum precaution.
・It might hook you or your child's ears, nose, and limbs.

★Beware for dangerous poisoned fishes!!
・Do not touch or eat unknown fishes,  it may harm or poisoned you.

So, When you intend to try SABIKI fishing, Please wear a hat, a long sleeve shirt, and thick Jeans trousers for your own and family protection...

of course... do not forget to tell your partners too!!





As you know that Japanese society has a lot of restrictions against people's behaviours, so as fishing too!!

【Restrictions on fishing】

★Not allowed to keep under 14cm fish or any type of shells, so...
release them to the ocean alive.

★Not allowed to enter "Custom bonded area", "Restricted harbour", "Private embankment", and some of "Fishing boats harbour"... there are so many restricted areas, so...

enjoy fishing at the admitted areas, such as Fishing parks, Fishing admitted harbours only.

★Recommended not exceeding more than 2 rods by each person...
otherwise... you will be in a big trouble with other anglers.

★Do not light up water in the night... If you light up surface of the water, fishes will escape from that area and not coming back for while.

★Some of the fishing areas are restrict using a long casting rod called "Nage Zao"(なげざお＝投げ竿）... therefore inside Tokyo bay areas are restricted of using it, and other major harbours especially embankment are not allowed also.

★Keep the distance away from other anglers.
It is best to keep 50m away from others.

★Say hello to neighbor anglers before starting fishing.
It may reduces troubles.

★Note: All soft "Iso Zao" & "All lure rods" are OK... so, do not upset!!
